 One
of the biggest advantages of land-based diving, is that you travel
to specific dive sites like Gordon's Rocks and other places where
more animals are habitually seen. Also, these places aren't often
visited during a regular tour of the islands.
Land-based
diving begins at Puerto Ayora with one of a few dive operators. You
usually leave early in the morning (around 7:00 ) and arrive to the
morning dive site. After the morning dive, lunch is provided as well
as a much needed rest. You'll go to the afternoon dive site, dive,
and return to Puerto Ayora in the late afternoon.
While
with most sites, you travel directly to the dive sites, dive, and
return to Puerto Ayora, there are two of the sites that require overnight
stays. Darwin and Wolf Islands,
located far to the northwest, have no visitor sites, making them unaccessible
for those touring by land. Because of the magnificent animal-life
and depths, they are challenging dives meant for more accomplished
divers. It is possible to see these islands
with an overnight boat stay
with a dive operator out of Puerto Ayora, or to charter them as
part of a live-aboard diving tour
