TO BUY:
The
Galapagos has t-shirts, postcards, keychains, maps, books, posters,
jewelry, sarongs -- a myriad of souvenirs for all tourists. The t-shirts
are undoubtedly the most popular and can be bought on every streetcorner.
If you buy them from The Foundation Darwin, part of that money goes
toward research. (They might be $2.00 more there).
You
can also buy souvenirs made from corals, turtle, and tortoise shells.
DON'T BUY THESE! They are illegal and support the black market.
In Puerto
Ayora, there's an amazing community of artists, poets, song-writers
and designers all inspired by the art of the nature of the islands.
Spend a little time there, and meet the people who write the books and
design the souvenirs we buy.
| Go
to Angelique
Art Gallery, created and designed by Sarah Darling. She sells
beautiful and exclusive pieces: oils, silk scarves, ceramics, mirrors
and chiffon -- all with the flare of the islands. Go to her web
site for more information and a taste of her work. |
There
is also some exclusive jewelry only found in Puerto Ayora (for a price,
of course!). However, some of the pieces are magnificent and worth checking
out.
